About Our Principal
Dr.N.O.Gopal specializes in Agricultural Microbiology and his research areas include bio-fertilizers and waste recycling, biomethanation and bioconversion of agro residues, and bioethanol production from agro residues. He holds an M.Sc., (Agriculture) and a Ph.D., and has accumulated 36 years of experience in the field of Agricultural Microbiology. Dr. Gopal is a member of several professional organizations, both national and international, including the American Society of Microbiology (USA) and the Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI). He is also a Life Member of organizations such as the Biogas Forum of India, Krishnamurthy Institute of Algology, and the TNAU Alumni Association.
Dr. Gopal has handled over 109 microbiology courses, including undergraduate and postgraduate programs in agricultural microbiology, microbial technology, food science, and agricultural biotechnology. He has guided numerous students, with fourteen M.Tech/MSc (Agri) candidates and six Ph.D. students, including those with prestigious fellowships like DST-INSPIRE and UGC. Additionally, he has managed 19 externally funded schemes, with a total budget of Rs. 553.42 lakhs. These projects, funded by both government and public sector organizations, cover a wide range of topics, including biofuels, biostimulants, biodiesel production, and poultry litter-based biomethanation.
Dr. Gopal has participated in various international training programs, such as the USAID-HED training at the University of California, Davis, and the German Indian Dialogue on Bioenergy at the University of Hannover. He has also completed specialized courses in laboratory safety, biological waste management, and food supply protection through international bodies like UC Davis and the USDA. His memberships in scientific bodies include serving on the committee for inspecting agricultural products and worked as a member of the working group on Agricultural Research and Education for the Tamil Nadu State Planning Commission.
Dr. Gopal’s contributions to the field are extensive, with 67 research papers, 5 books/booklets, 19 book chapters, 67 seminar presentations, and 18 popular articles. He has also authored 21 practical manuals, reflecting his deep commitment to advancing agricultural sciences.
